Drivers License Inquiry
A Drivers License inquiry validates and examines an individual's driver license and driving record.
MSA Investigations recommends obtaining driving records for anyone driving a company owned vehicle, chauffeuring other employees or clients, or operating machinery including forklifts. "Driving for work" is often very broadly defined in most jurisdictions and is not limited to full time driving positions.
Please note that the availability of driver's license records is dependent on the state where the research is being conducted.
A signed release is necessary from the person for whom the report will be requested.
A drivers license check can be a valuable resource when conducting a background investigation by providing:
-
The status of the operator's driving privileges
-
Insight into a person’s level of responsibility
-
Indicates if a person has a drug or alcohol problem
Note - Certain states do not list convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs on criminal court records. If a Drivers License Inquiry is not conducted in conjunction with a Criminal History Check, this important information could be missed. This information is obtained when a Drivers License Inquiry is requested.
A Drivers License check will also provide the following additional information:
-
Restrictions
-
Expiration date
-
License type and class
-
Endorsements (if applicable)
-
Suspensions or revocations
-
Violations
-
Accidents
